For a heavy user like me, It’s no surprise that my laptop’s LCD is serving at its limits. This is the second time my LCD’s backlight is not working properly. It had been replaced 1.5 years ago and now it decides to stop breathing again.
Knowing that my 3.5 years old laptop’s LCD screen is near an end, I quickly bought a replacement. Somebody should have stop me, but it’s too late now. The 22″ Samsung is already on my desk. *grin*

Double Jealous!

You make a good point with the stand. I got this same monitor (shipped from the same retailer, in fact) a few weeks ago now, and my desk is tiny. Thankfully I have a high-backed chair which reclines quite a bit, so the screen doesn’t feel too close, but having the screen further back would just make sense. Like the buttons, it seems Samsung has gone all for form over function.
ATI has really fumbled the ball with widescreen support. My friend also got a 20″ widescreen Samsung recently and despite having a very recent model Radeon (An HD 3850, no less) he can’t even play older games like WarCraft 3 without it being stretched. ATI’s drivers seem to have no option to scale whilest keeping the 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio where needed. I have no such problems on my much older Nvidia 6800.

Is there an option to turn off the dynamic contrast and stay with typical contrast (1000:1) ?
By Cyrris, June 2, 2008 @ 4:50 pm
I am not 100% sure there, but I figure Dynamic Contrast is actually off by default, and it is one of the selections you can make in the MagicBright menu. I don’t use it myself.

Cyrris:
yea you are right… ATi support for old drivers are limited especially for mobility drivers. Nvidia is still in the lead IMHO.
Dwayne:
Yeap, I believe there is. As Cyrris pointed out it is off by default. Switching the profile to “Dynamic Contrast” in MagicBright changes it up to 8000:1 ratio.

I bought one of these but I noticed two problems: firstly, lowering the brightness below about 80 resulted in an annoying buzzing sound. Secondly, there was quite a lot of backlight leak at the top and bottom (seen when the screen is dark, or when watching a letterboxed movie). I wondered if you have noticed these problems? I ended up sending it back and getting an LG L227WT, which so far has been excellent.

Hi BobTD, I guess all 2253BW have the couple of problems that you mention. The buzzing sound may be produced by the voltage transformer as mentioned in one of the whirlpool forumers here.
Looks like it’s the price we pay for a cheap model =) So how’s the LG L227WT?
