Imagine being a small ant walking around in a big big house. Nobody notice you when you walk around, nobody bother to step on you because you’re not stealing food.
That is exactly what I am now, as an intern in this very big company. I walk here and there in the office, poking colleagues that I barely know. Going up and down the lift, visiting places that I’ve ever been. It kinda obvious at time, but nobody cares.
It’s the third day in the office without any job assigned. I gradually get to know more colleagues as they return to office after their assignments. Surfing blogs is my routine job now, and I officially, became a faithful reader of thestar.com.my (unwillingly).
I’m trying to reduce my caffeine intake not because I’m addicted to it or I need to have it. It’s because I got used to walking around and unconsciencely end up at the pantry or cafeteria. Furthermore the drinks are free.
This is basically what I do for the entire day. My colleague suggest me to go shopping leaving the laptop at my workplace. Afterall nobody knows, or perhaps, nobody cares.

That was how I felt in my internship at an Australian news company!
But it was only for two weeks. I started in the design office and ended up in the I.T. office, eventually searching for relevant photos for the news items. I think most internships in big companies at least start off like this!
